So what is At Market?

At Market is dedicated to ensuring Producers receive a fair price for what they produce. And, with no shareholders to satisfy and no excessive profit margins to protect, that means a fair price for the Producer becomes a fair price for the Customer, too.

How does At Market work?

We use the traditional market philosophy of tolling. Toll markets used to be the standard way of bringing local goods to market and meant that Producers had no costly overheads to cover when they didn’t sell and Customers didn’t have to pay the penalty for those overheads.

In other words, a Producer pays a small percentage of takings in return for the benefits of a ‘shop window’. The greatest proportion of the sales price is retained by the Producer. This is unlike the supermarket route to sales, of course, where prices are set in advance and the profits remain with the supermarket’s shareholders and the Producer is often left with barely enough to cover production costs.

Where can I find At Market?

The first At Market site will open in Autumn 2008 and serve the Chichester area.

We’ll be coming to areas throughout the UK after that.
